چکیده

Most industrial and manufacturing processes are inherently multiscale systems. The systematic way of constructing multiscale models, however, is still an open research area. It is well known [1] that a process model is jointly determined by the process system and the modelling goal. Little is known, however, about a systematic way of taking the effect of the modelling goal into account during the modelling process [2, 3]. The aim of this paper is to propose a modelling goal-driven methodology for developing multiscale process models and show how this model can be used for diagnosis. Because of the novelty of the field of multiscale modelling , we restrict our attention to the case when the modelling goal is to obtain a model that is capable of performing prediction-based diagnosis. Diagnosis requires the use of a dynamic process model, where both uncertainty and empirical information can be described. Therefore, coloured Petri nets (CPNs) [4] have been selected as a unifying modelling tool for describing hierarchically integrated multiscale models.

Design of Sustainable Multifunctional Nanocoatings: A Goal-driven Multiscale Systems Approach

Polymer nanocomposites have a great potential to be a dominant coating material in a wide range of applications in the automotive, aerospace, ship-making, construction, and pharmaceutical industries. However, how to realize design sustainability of this type of nanostructured materials and how to ensure the true optimality of the product quality and process performance in coating manufacturing ...

Parallel in Time Simulation of Multiscale Stochastic Chemical Kinetics

A version of the time-parallel algorithm parareal is analyzed and applied to stochastic models in chemical kinetics. A fast predictor at the macroscopic scale (evaluated in serial) is available in the form of the usual reaction rate equations. A stochastic simulation algorithm is used to obtain an exact realization of the process at the mesoscopic scale (in parallel). The underlying stochastic ...

Towards computer-aided multiscale modelling: A generic supporting environment for model realization and execution

Computer-aided multiscale modelling (CAMM) may be carried out in three consecutive stages, namely conceptual modelling, model realization, and model execution. Following earlier work on a conceptual modelling tool which aims to support the first stage of CAMM, prototypical tools for realizing conceptual models and for the execution of simulation are developed in this work, with the assumption t...

Dynamics of Macro–Nano Mechanical Systems; Fixed Interfacial Multiscale Method

The continuum based approaches don’t provide the correct physics in atomic scales. On the other hand, the molecular based approaches are limited by the length and simulated process time. As an attractive alternative, this paper proposes the Fixed Interfacial Multiscale Method (FIMM) for computationally and mathematically efficient modeling of solid structures. The approach is applicable to mult...

Application of M3GM in a Petroleum Reservoir Simulation

Reservoir formations exhibit a wide range of heterogeneity from micro to macro scales. A simulation that involves all of these data is highly time consuming or almost impossible; hence, a new method is needed to meet the computational cost. Moreover, the deformations of the reservoir are important not only to protect the uppermost equipment but also to simulate fluid pattern and petroleum produ...
